Overview

The Piper J-3 Cub Power 46 ARF+ from Hangar 9® is a revolutionary almost-ready-to-fly airplane.  The Piper J-3 Cub Power 46 ARF+ actually comes with a factory-installed E-flite Power 46 Brushless Outrunner Motor. All that’s needed to complete the Piper J-3 Cub is a radio system, speed control, 4 servos, battery and propeller. The powerful, yet quiet motor is designed to ease the transition from glow to electric power.

Hangar 9’s Piper J-3 Cub Power 46 ARF+ is constructed from top-quality balsa
and ply materials and covered in genuine Hangar 9 UltraCote covering for a
realistic look.  Other features include a magnetic battery hatch for convenience, factory-assembled scale landing gear with simulated bungies and smooth shock absorption that stand up to everyday flying.  The Cub also boasts a proven design with great scale detail and scheme-based on Pat Hartness' full-sized J-3 Cub.

Details:

When I first bought this model I had no intention of of changing a thing.  It was the second model I bought since getting "back" into the hobby and I didn't want to modify a proven airframe. 

 Well, that lasted about two days....


 

Modification: Flaps!

What?!?  flaps on a J-3!  OK, so it is not scale, Only the Super Cub had flaps, but I thought -What the heck...  While not easy to do, it is a wonderful addition that really slows your cub down.

Modification: True "plug-in wings"

The worst part about having two piece wings is the constant installation and removal.  Couple that with four servos that need to be plugged in every time and you are just asking for disaster.   There has to be an easier way!  Well, here it is:  The no muss-no fuss true-plug in wing.  This neat modification takes all the guesswork and "oops" out of plugging in the servos every time you connect the wings.  This took me about 3 hours to complete.
